THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FROM 5:20PM EDT UNTIL 8:20PM WEDNESDAY 3RD JANUARY 2018.

A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS INCLUDING, BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO AND ITS CAYS, THE BERRY ISLANDS,  ANDROS, ELEUTHERA, NEW PROVIDENCE, EXUMA AND ITS CAYS, LONG ISLAND, RUM CAY, SAN SALVADOR AND CAT ISLAND UNTIL 8:20PM.

AT 5:20PM SURFACE WIND OBSERVATIONS FROM SEVERAL ISLANDS INDICATED WINDS GUSTING FROM GALE FORCE TO STORM FORCE, THAT IS WINDS OF 35 KNOTS TO ABOUT 50 KNOTS OR MORE.

MARINERS IN THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT AND BEACHGOERS SHOULD REMAIN ONSHORE UNTIL FURTHER ADVISED.  DANGEROUS SURF AND RIP CURRENTS EXIST.  MOTORISTS SHOULD AVOID TRAVELLING ALONG THE COASTS DUE TO BATTERING WAVES, DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS AND SEA SPRAY THAT CAN IMPAIR VISIBILITY AND CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.

  1. Well we got caught in the storm , we left eluthera at 11:00 am in a lagoon 40 and got to nasseau at 05:30 am the next morning winds and waves were terrible !! Happy we made it
