THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FROM 1PM UNTIL 3PM TUESDAY 9 TH JANUARY, 2018. A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO, NEW PROVIDENCE, BERRY ISLANDS AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 1PM OBSERVATION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWED CLUSTERS OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A SURFACE TROUGH ACROSS THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS…THE CLUSTER IS MOVING NORTHEASTWARDS.
SOME OF THESE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN
WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
