It’s been some 20 years in the making. The friendship between Dr. Debbie Bartlett and Dr. Bernice King, Martin Luther King Jr’s second daughter, has strengthened over the years. The two first met around 2000 after Debbie invited Martin Luther III to speak qt her CEO network conference.
Destiny clapped her hands and on Monday, January 15, Debbie will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to speak at the annual ecumenical service honoring one of her childhood heroes, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Says Dr. Bartlett, “Destiny has Predetermined That A Bahamian Woman Of Color would Be Invited To the United States of America to speak on this historic occasion. It is an opportunity that I am deeply humbled by and do not take lightly. It is my prayer that I will make the Bahamian people and Caribbean People Proud.”
King entered Morehouse College, Atlanta at the age of 15 and later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in sociology. He received his doctorate in Systematic Theology from Boston University. The “I have a Dream Speech was written in Bimini, Bahamas while on a fishing expedition with boatbuilder and historian Ansil Saunders.”
