A Magistrate has ordered former Fidelity Bank employee twenty-four-year-old Lakia Carey to repay some $33,000 she stole from the bank during her employment there. She has until the end of November to repay the money. Carey was also fined $10,000 or one year in prison on a ‘stealing by reason of employment charge’ and placed on two years probation.
Magistrate Samuel McKinney also ordered that the designer handbags and watches Carey bought with some of the funds be confiscated. Police found the items at her home, along with $8,000. Evidence also revealed that Carey deducted over $40,000 from clients accounts between December 27th of last year and January 8th of this year and transferred the money to an account held by Jasmine Clarke.
Clarke was fined 3,500 or year in prison and placed on two years probation.
