A new organization is stepping forward to assist in providing the tools to assist contractors in becoming certified. The moving forward contractors association plans to begin holding seminars that they say would put contractors on the path to becoming certified bearing in mind the contractors bill that will require them to do so. Chairman Floyd Walker on why it’s important to work to change the mindset of some persons and encourage accountability in the construction sector.
Walker says “we’re hoping that people would understand the importance of what it is all about. Its all about accountability, reliability, competency and the rest of it. You must give the customer a good product and that is what this seminar is all about. You engage with the customer, you’re given a contract. at the end of your contract with the product that you give them”.
Walker says the organization has about 100 members. Seminars will run from tomorrow to Friday between 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and from 8 to 4 on Saturday at New Covenant Baptist Church. Programme co-ordinator Gregory K. Minnis says a number of speakers are lined up for the sessions which is a first in a series.
Minnis went on to say “of course we really want to make sure that at the end of the day the stigma has been taken away from contractors and so again we are calling on all of our contractors small. medium or large to recognize that there are a group of men in all of our different areas of construction deciding to see how best we can make a difference in this season in our country. We have a really gone to the extreme in finding the right persons to share in this first seminar and we have some major persons from some of the major construction companies who will also come and be one of our presenters”.
