The Minister of Labour, Senator, the Honourable Dion Foulkes challenged executives of the National Tripartite Council to always act in the best interest of The Bahamas as he addressed the First Annual General Assembly of the Council at the BCPOU Headquarters on March 20, 2018. “As stakeholders deliberate over the next few hours and chart a course for the way forward for the Council, I admonish each of you to critically examine all of the issues that we as a people are faced, consider the short and long-term effects of our recommendations and reflect on, if indeed we are truly acting in the best interest of
all those Bahamians, even those unborn,” commented Minister Foulkes.
Minister Foulkes said, “Over the past few years, there have been growing pains however, the Council has, without a doubt, contributed significantly to enacting legislation to improve the standard of living and quality of life of the working people of The Bahamas.” Some of those in attendance at the meeting included Mr. Robert Farquharson,
Chairman of the National Tripartite Council and Director of Labour; Mr. Bernard Evans, President of the National Congress of Trade Unions Bahamas; Mr. Obie Ferguson, President of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas Trade Union Congress and Mr. Edison Sumner, Chief Executive Officer of The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation along with executives of the various trade union bodies and officials of the Ministry of Labour.
