Budget Debate begins in Senate

Senators began debate on the controversial 2018/2019 budget Wednesday morning with the leader of government business in the Senate, Senator The Hon. Carl Bethel, stressing that it is incumbent on government to act now to address financial challenges before The Bahamas suffers the fate of countries like Jamaica, that saw its dollar devalued again last week. Despite widespread public criticism on the budget that will see Value Added Tax increase from 7.5 percent to 12 percent, Bethel says the government must make tough decisions in the interest of the country.

Senator Dwight Sawyer seconding the bill called it a good and sound one that will benefit Bahamians.
