Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Lanisha Rolle declared the commencement of the ‘2019 Bahamas Entrepreneur Inspired’ (BE Inspired) programme for Young Bahamian Entrepreneurs launched Thursday, February 28, during a press conference at the Ministry. “You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut,” she said, “young people open your eyes and seize the moment.”
Minister Rolle said the programme, produced by the Department of Youth, “is an improved version of the former “Self Starter Programme” which seeks to provide capital for young entrepreneurs in developing their business.” This programme she said has been renamed the ‘Bahamas Entrepreneur Inspired’ or BE Inspired programme.
Our nation’s continued investment in the programme which began in 2008, for youth 18-35, is realized through the perseverance of the entrepreneurs, the Minister said. The Government has earmarked in its 2018/2019 budget the sum of $840,000 for this particular initiative. Grants will be available ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Although the improved model still offers this assistance to its participants, the ‘BE Inspired Programme’ now requires greater training, monitoring and evaluation opportunities which in turn produce mature and knowledgeable entrepreneurs.
Minister Rolle said, “It is my Ministry’s intention that this program impacts existing and prospective entrepreneurs throughout the length and breadth of this archipelago. The enhanced programme is focused on more than the initial start-up capital, [rather, also on] equipping existing and prospective business persons with tools, knowledge and monitoring mechanisms that will ensure their business growth, sustainability and rejuvenation as are typical within a business life cycle.”
