The Bahamas Agricultural & Industrial Corporation (BAIC) will hold a Mega Market, Saturday, March 23, 2019, on Gladstone Road in honor of the corporation’s 37th year said Chairman, Bishop Gregory Collie at the corporation’s headquarters on Friday. The chairman also announced the corporation will partner with the Ministry of the Environment and Housing to help prepare the country for the elimination of single-use plastics and Styrofoam containers for food and beverage, by 2020 — adding that some of the items that will be banned in two years will be shopping bags, straws, utensils and Styrofoam containers.  Environment Ministry officials will be at Saturday’s market to educate the public as well as pass out reusable bags.

Bishop Collie revealed that the corporation has partnered with BTC in their ‘Neighbourhood Connect’ program.  BTC’s brand ambassadors such as DMac, Dyson Knight, MDeez and Najee Dunn will make an appearance at Saturday’s ‘Mega Market.’ Artisans from around New Providence will be at the market, which will be open for extended hours from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bishop Collie noted, “BAIC looks forward to the day when the harvest yields can increase substantially.  The only way this can be accomplished is if we can encourage younger persons to get into the business of farming.  More farmers means more product.” He added, “The gains for the farmers have been exceptional and we look forward to farmer’s markets popping up all over the country as they have begun in Long Island, Grand Bahama, and Eleuthera.”
