DPM addresses Rotary Youth Leadership Event


On Saturday, March 30 th, 2019 Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas hosted its Annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) at New Providence Community Church (NPCC). The event welcomed over 100 students from schools such as: Columbus Primary, Doris Johnson, St Andrews, R. M. Bailey High School, Lyford Cay, Christian Heritage, St Anne’s, BTVI, Government High School and C.V. Bethel School. Also present were members of the Rotaract Club of Southeast Centennial and the Rotaract Club of Nassau Sunset. This year’s attendees were treated to a presentation by The Hon K. Peter Turnquest Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, who is also a Past Assistant Governor for Rotary District 6990 (South Florida and Grand Bahama) and Past President. Mr. Turnquest addressed the audience on the topic, “Rotary Experience, Benefits of Earlyact, Interact & Rotaract Clubs”.

The audience was also addressed by Mr. Darron Turnquest, Director of Youth & Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary, who gave a dynamic presentation on “Leadership and Becoming a Leader”. In addition, Torique Farrington, an Interactor presented on the topic, “Group Dynamics & Dealing with Peer Pressure”. As part of the program, the students also participated in two Community Service projects which
included a donation to Hands for Hunger and packaging clothing items for Charity. Other presenters included Assistant Governor Mario Smith and District Governor Nominee Charles Sealy.
