Mrs. Patricia Minnis, Spouse of Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis, was keynote speaker at an elegant Bahamas Independence Reception earlier this month, hosted by the Embassy of The Bahamas in collaboration with the Embassy Consular Annex.  The event, at InterContinental The Wharf, July 12, had a nautical theme, and paid homage to the maritime culture of The Bahamas.  His Excellency, Sidney Collie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Mrs. Mavis Collie and Mr. Theo Neilly, Consul General welcomed guests from the diplomatic community and the Bahamian diaspora.

Mrs. Minnis presented awards to five outstanding honourees for their contributions to The Bahamas in the DC area – namely: Mrs. Nesta Pathirana, Mr. Cameron Ferguson, Mrs. Dornell Watson-Dean, Mr. Peter J. Goulandris, and Mr. Bernard Colebrooke.

Following the award presentation, guests enjoyed entertainment by Bahamian performer Lady E and Junkanoo by Baha-Nation, a Bahamian group based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
