For more than a decade, Tony Macaroni’s Conch Experience has been the go-to spot for authentic Bahamian cuisine, from Roast Conch – a Tony specialty – traditional Conch salad, Conch Burgers and more. Set against the backdrop of miles of pristine sandy beach on beautiful Grand Bahama Island, the open-air, thatch-roofed shack and its fun-loving owner built an award reputation for providing both local and
international visitors with memorable experiences. In 2016, the world-famous eatery was forced to temporarily shut its doors after suffering severe damage from Hurricane Matthew. Even in its absence, the restaurant’s reputation garnered it a nomination as one of the US Today’s 20 Best Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Beach Bar in the Caribbean.
After successfully rebounding from Hurricane Matthew, the popular beach bar was again caught in the crossfire of another major system, this time Hurricane Dorian. “While we had no damage to the deck, which was very fortunate, the impact on the island and my business is really severe from the business income perspective” explained Tony.
Tony, a Nassau native, first visited Freeport in 1970 where he immediately fell in love with the stunning Taino Beach. “It was destiny,” he said. “I fell in love with the beach and adopted it as a
personal project and I’ve been here ever since.” Over the years, Tony’s “shack” has been the ideal spot for celebrities looking to get away from it all including larger than life personalities like Ving Rahmes, Steve Guttenberg, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Jeffery Rush, however the unconventional diner holds an equally special place in the hearts of locals as well.
“Toni Macaroni is one of the few food and drink experiences in Grand
Bahama, that gives our guests and residents a truly authentic Bahamian experience,” said Magnus Alnebeck, GM of the Pelican Bay Hotel. “It is essential that we have places like this open when we are now restarting Grand Bahama.” After just two months, the iconic Grand Bahama eatery is again ready to reopen, offering its signature dishes and warm hospitality to visitors and locals alike.
“I have been here for more than 3 decades and with the continued support of all my amazing customers I plan to be here for another 3 decades, putting smiles on the face of everyone who comes by.”
