A request made by China Construction America (CCA) to stay a $1.6 billion judgement in favor of BML Properties has been denied. The judgement was made earlier this year by New York Justice Andrew Borrok in the long running court battle over the construction of the Baha Mar Resort. Borrok ruled that CCA breached its contract with Sarkis Izmirlian’s BML Properties and committed fraud which led to the collapse of the multiple hotel resort development.
Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Sen. Hon. Ryan Pinder was asked for comment about this latest development on Thursday. He said, “we’re not concerned. The government has the mind of the Bahamian people first and foremost. Whatever happens the government has to be a part of the process and ultimately they have to come to government.”
Pinder also addressed the Christie administration’s involvement in the Baha Mar saga. “I think at that time the Bahamas government was completely in the right in looking to see if there were other financing opportunities, other capital partners to bring to fruition the development plan that everybody had supported.”
The Attorney General added, “I think the government was well on its firm footing and grounds in the best interests of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to ensure that the largest single investment that happened in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas was completed, was completed appropriately and had the staffing and the opportunities for Bahamians.”
