The US Charge d’Affaires Kimberly Furnish recently addressed the Grand Bahama Business Outlook event where she gave some advice to The Bahamas.

She said, “as our regional partners build capacity they can more easily resist countries like China. China promises much but delivers little.”

Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, Her Excellency Yan Jiarong responded by emphasizing the good relationship between China and The Bahamas. Jiarong said, “China Bahamas relations are built upon the basis of equality, mutual respect, mutual benefit and no interference in each other’s internal affairs. Cooperation between our two countries is based upon the needs of The Bahamas and, you know, facts speak louder than words. Our cooperation with The Bahamas has brought tangible benefits to the local people and improved the well being of the Bahamian. So we will certainly continue enhance practical cooperation with The Bahamas.”

Ambassador Jiarong added, ” China does not engage in exclusive, small circles geopolitical competition or block confrontation. China does not request other countries to take sides. China welcomes all other friendly countries to invest more, to invest more in The Bahamas and carry out more projects to the benefit of the Bahamian people.”

It was reported that The Bahamas trade with China more than doubled by November 2024 to $1.24 Billion.
