Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe appeared at a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister on Monday where he spoke to the government’s crime prevention efforts.
While answering questions about the new Deputy Commissioner having a security contract with the government, Munroe revealed that former national security minister, Marvin Dames signed to have the license for his own security company renewed. He said, “you can see his signature on his security license. Now that was him giving something to himself. Neither of the deputy commissioners gave anything to themselves, so that’s the first level of conflict. And then his company got the security arrangement when Buju Banton, a convicted cocaine trafficker had a concert here and I am aware that when convicted individuals seek entry and no objection from the Ministry of National Security is usually sought. So if the usual practice held true he would have been asked for no objection that must have been favourably given because Buju Banton performed here.
The national security minister said there is nothing prevents police officers holding shares in companies. He also revealed that while the government has a contract with Metro Security Solutions payments were made directly to Leon Bethel, former Assistant Commissioner of Police.
