National Covid-19 numbers are continuing to trend downwards and tourism officials are hoping the United States will re-assess the travel advisory issued on Monday.
The level four travel health notice advises travelers to reconsider coming to the Bahamas, due to health and safety measures and Covid-related conditions.
The advisory comes as Minister of Tourism and Aviation the Hon. Dionisio D’Aguilar says officials are pushing to lure visitors back into the country.
“Our number one economy is tourism it generates at least 50 percent of all economic activity in the country, it employs two out of every three Bahamians and if we were a destination that is full of Covid and we have a significant amount of Covid cases we are not going to be attractive as a place to visit.
“And that impacts jobs, that impacts livelihoods, that impacts your ability to live with dignity and have a job. So please, I cannot beg the Bahamian people enough.
“These young people who are getting together and congregating and having all of these parties.
“We shouldn’t congregate, we shouldn’t party and please, wear a mask” the Tourism Minister said.
Minister D’Aguilar continues to urge Bahamians and residents to adhere to the Covid-19 health and safety protocols in order to stop community spread.
“We impress upon people that for the safety of not only yourself. Don’t only think of yourself, think of your family and think of your country because until we lick this problem or abide by the rules to keep the number of cases in check; that is what is going to help us to restart our tourism industry” he said.
