EA Energy, in partnership with the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection (DEPP), recently completed public consultation meetings in Abaco and Eleuthera. Held on June 10th and June 12th, respectively, the meetings were part of the environmental review process for its proposed energy generation facilities. The sessions were
organized in accordance with Bahamian environmental regulations and provided residents with an opportunity to hear directly from EA Energy and DEPP representatives, ask questions, and share feedback specifically related to the environmental impact of the planned infrastructure.
Over the past few months, EA Energy has taken deliberate steps to ensure its development approach aligns with national energy goals and international environmental standards. The company has conducted environmental baseline assessments and committed to strict mitigation strategies to minimize disruption during both the construction and operation phases of the project, placing equal emphasis on technical precision and meaningful community engagement.
The proposed infrastructure, which, upon completion, would incorporate liquefied natural gas (LNG), battery storage, and solar integration, is part of a broader public-private partnership (PPP) aimed at modernizing energy generation across the country. Once approved, these facilities will be built and operated by EA Energy, which will continue to coordinate closely with Bahamas Power and Light (BPL), the entity responsible for transmission and distribution.
“We aim to improve the delivery of energy to the Bahamian people by developing safe, efficient, and future-ready generation systems,” said EA Energy CEO Erold Farquharson. “We’re committed to building infrastructure that meets the needs of today while preparing for the demands of tomorrow.”
Mr. Farquharson also acknowledged the importance of ongoing collaboration. “EA Energy’s focus is on generation, while BPL remains responsible for getting that power to homes and businesses. We work in coordination with them to strengthen energy delivery across the country—and we take seriously our responsibility as a corporate citizen in the communities we will serve.”
Russell Craig and Associates, the independent environmental consultants overseeing this process, supported both sessions and ensured compliance with environmental review protocols. The firm will also produce the official consultation reports and the required environmental management plan (EMP) for both projects. The organization will remain available to address follow-up questions from the public. The formal consultation period remains open for additional public feedback. Residents of Abaco have until July 9, 2025, and residents of Eleuthera have until July 14, 2025, to submit written comments.
Members of the public may visit http://www.eaenergybahamas.com to review information regarding the project or submit written comments, while consultation documents on both projects are available for review at http://www.russellcraigassociates.com. Submissions may also be sent via email to info@russellcraigassociates.com or depp@bahamas.gov.bs, or delivered in person or by mail to the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection, Charlotte House, Charlotte Street, Nassau, The Bahamas.
