Leader of the Opposition and leader of the Free National Movement (FNM) Michael Pintard has responded to comments made by Prime Minister the Hon. Philip Davis on the government’s position on D. E. A. (Drug Enforcement Administration) agents working undercover in the country.
This came after Bahamian Ambassador to the United States His Excellency Wendall Jones called on U.S. officials to reveal the identity of ‘Politician 1’, an unidentified person described in U.S. indictments as a high ranking government official involved with accused drug traffickers.
Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Senator Wayne Munroe also commented on the issue saying the agents were breaking Bahamian laws.
Prime Minister Davis said on Monday said he will take the advice of U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas Herschel Walker and let the situation play out.
Pintard spoke with reporters outside the House of Assembly on Wednesday. He said, “the Prime Minister has said, just yesterday, that he is not concerned about the D. E. A., that he is concerned about process. We believe he is concerned. He sounds like a defense attorney. The Attorney General sounds like a defense attorney. They are deeply concerned about what may be coming when these trials actually get started. These are critical issues that we want him to address.”
