The Free National Movement (FNM) held a memorial service for the late Don Saunders outside of its Mackey Street headquarters on Wednesday evening. At the time of his passing Saunders, who was also a former Member of Parliament for Tall Pines, served as a Deputy Chairman of the FNM.
The event was attended by past and present Parliamentarians, past and present Party officers, Meritorious Council Members, members and supporters of the FNM. The Saunders family was also there.
FNM Leader and Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard told those gathered what must be done to continue the work of Don Saunders. He said, “I want to say to all the officers and members of the Free National Movement that we have to continue that work that Don dedicated his life too. And apart of that work is making sure we turn to each other and not on each other. Apart of that work is recognizing that no one, two or three persons, no side have a monopoly on good ideas. Apart of that work is recognizing that we are stronger together.”
In his remarks, FNM Chairman, Dr. Duane Sands spoke highly of Saunders. “I had the opportunity to work very closely with Don and I can tell you without fear of contradiction that he was an incredibly committed Bahamian, an incredibly committed father and a truly wonderful human being,” he said.
Also delivering remarks at the memorial were President of the Bahamas Christian Council, Bishop Delton Fernander; TYA President, Xavier Knowles and Former FNM Tall Pines Constituency Chair, Michelle Griffin.
The funeral service for Saunders is scheduled to be held on Friday April 19th at St. Agnes Anglican Church.
