The Ministry of Transport and Energy released a statement last week after a shooting incident involving two jitney drivers occurred near Yamacraw Hill Road.

United Public Transportation Company Owner, Harrison Moxey called for greater presence of the authorities while speaking with ZNS News about the incident and the industry. He said, “every bus have to come through the downtown area. We need to have those checks so that we can know that there is some accountability. So when you see the authority go off the scene drivers can get relaxed, some people can get complacent, we can have some rogue persons slip in and out of the industry. We have to be mindful of that. So yes, we need greater presence of the authorities on the road.”

Moxey also assured the public that public transportation is safe. “We do have incidents here and there but you can help us and you can help the industry and the situation by simply taking not of who it is that is doing what.”

The statement further stated that the Ministry is cooperating with police on the shooting incident and encouraged anyone with information to contact that police.
