Bahamian WNBA Champion and MVP, Jonquel Jones arrived in the country recently to celebrate her WNBA Championship win with the New York Liberty basketball team.  She was also awarded the most valuable player award during the final game.

Over the weekend a voice note was circulated widely on social media about Jones who visited her alma mater on Grand Bahama along side her fiancé who is also a woman.  Jones addressed the controversy at a press conference on Monday.  She said, “the reception has been extremely welcoming.  And I think that was probably the only that I was worried about when I tweeted what I did tweet is that I didn’t want it to be overshadowed by all of the great reception and the way that we have been received.  You know like I think its been second to none.  I think its been amazing but I know that there is a little bit of noise in the market as well and I’d be remiss not to use my platform to be able to speak out and say the things that I want to say and then just leave it at that.”

A motorcade was held in Jones’ honour in Grand Bahama over the weekend.  She along with her fiancé also called on Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis at the Office of the Prime Minister on Monday.
