The Department of Labour recently hosted a Labour On The Blocks event at St. Joseph’s Church on Boyd Road.  The event gives job seekers the chance to meet with prospective employers in hopes of finding gainful employment.

Minister of Labour and the Public Service, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle was in attendance.  She said, “this is an opportunity for you, if you are serious about employment, not looking for a job, if you are serious about employment the opportunity sits before you today.  What does that mean?  The Department of Labour and our Public Employment Services Unit has over 200 jobs available. So that tells me that we do not have a job shortage in our country.  As you are aware our employment rate is 8.7% which is single digits and the lowest it’s been in sixteen years.  That means that employment is available.”

A Sure Win was one of the companies at the event seeking to fill vacancies.  Marketing Coordinator, Anthony Coakley said, “a lot of persons when they think of gaming or if they see the gaming industry they just envision the cashier, the person behind the counter when they would go into a location but there are so many more opportunities.  There are opportunities for IT persons, for promotions persons, for maintenance, for human resources, for operations.  There’s so many opportunities in A Sure Way Gaming so don’t just look at it as just that one interaction that y0u have with the person behind the cashier because there’s so many areas that make that experience that you have or what you see on a regular basis.”
