A man in his twenties was shot and killed in the area of Market Street on Saturday afternoon. It was reported that two men exited a dark colored Japanese vehicle and opened fire on the victim and another male.
Police Superintendent, Terrico Sweeting was on the scene where he briefed members of the media on the incident. He said, “sometime around 4:15pm, today’s date, the police were alerted by our ShotSpotter technology that there were a number of rounds discharged on Western Avenue in the area of Market Street. The police were dispatched on their arrival they found two persons lying on the ground suffering from gunshot injuries. EMS were dispatched, one of those persons received initial medical attention and left via the EMS in the ambulance and one of those persons they found to be lifeless.”
Also on the scene was Assistant Commissioner of Police, Roberto Goodman who appealed to the public to be more vigilant and careful. “Don’t wait til crime reach to your door to want to make a difference. Let us be the difference. How many bodies that we have to pick up as police officers each and everyday and it’s just our problem as an organization, the Royal Bahamas Police Force or as a whole society,” he said.
This incident is the 99th homicide in the country this year.
