Flanked by other high ranking police officers, Commissioner of Police, Clayton Fernander spoke with members of the media as he made the rounds at the New Year’s Junkanoo Parade.  Among the topics covered was the ongoing investigation into former Officer In Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department,  Chief Superintendent Michael Johnson.

Police released a statement on December 31st informing the public of the resignation of Johnson and that the files of the investigation had been turned over to the Director of Public Prosecutions.  Fernander told reporters, “it was a complex as we probe into the investigation.  Its not just the voice note.  It goes beyond just the voice note.”  Johnson was placed on garden leave after a voice note of him allegedly in talks with purported gang leader Michael Fox Jr., now deceased, to squash a case against him was leaked via social media.

The Commissioner also informed that Johnson was arrested weeks ago along with an attorney.  “He was arrested and interviewed and released pending.”

Fernander confirmed the investigation is still ongoing and that other officers have been implicated in the case.
