A service was held at New Destiny Baptist Cathedral on Sunday to commemorate National Women’s Week and the 62nd anniversary of women’s right to vote in The Bahamas.
Minister of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting, the Hon. Myles Laroda was in attendance as well as Wife of the Prime Minister, Mrs. Ann Marie Davis. During his remarks the Minister said, “since gaining the right to vote the women of The Bahamas have made remarkable strides. They have excelled holding key positions in public and private sectors. They play an important role in our homes, in the workplace, in our churches and in our communities. We are proud of the achievements of our women who stand on the shoulders of trailblazing matriarchs.”
The sermons was delivered by Senior Pastor and President of the Bahamas Christian Council, Bishop Delton Fernander. He said, “after a week as last week it’s time for us to realize it’s time for us to take back our country. I don’t think I have to say to you today our village is in trouble, our village needs each and every one of us to step forward to make a difference.”
National Women’s Week ends on November 30th.
