Pandemic Straps Bahamasair

The Covid-19 global pandemic has taken quite a toll on the national flag carrier’s finances.

Tracey Cooper told ZNS News monthly expenses are in the millions.

“We have about 600 staff members and we continue to carry the salaries of those staff and staff emoluments. Outside of that we have our regular rents to be paid if we fly or not and that’s around $3 million a month,” he said.

“As you can imagine, we would have racked up easily another $7 million to $8 million just sitting around doing nothing. For an airline that kind of operates on our means and with government assistance, that is only providing a heavier burden on the airline.”
