Officials of the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) led by Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville attended church services at Living Waters Kingdom Ministries over the weekend as Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close.
Dr. Darville spoke with ZNS News on the sidelines of the event about the initiatives underway to the encourage self examination. He said, “at our clinics we’re about to launch a new digital platform at all of our health care facilities that will speak to breast cancer and other forms of cancer and begin to ensure that young people start a life changing mechanism where they start to self examine. In doing so you pick up early lump. We can do lumpectomies and the survival rate is actually better in its early detection.”
PHA Managing Director, Dr. Aubynette Rolle was also in attendance at the service where she presented baskets of essentials to two cancer patients currently receiving treatment. She said, “one of the things as a health care system we like to be in tone with what happening nationally as well as globally but this one really hit close to home. Just ten months ago, my daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 26. And so even though that fall outside what people would say is the norm or what data shows we are dealing with it now. And so I really wanted as a Managing Director to push forward and to let persons know that there is hope.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month ends on October 31st.
