Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party, the Hon. Fred Mitchell recently visited the island of Grand Bahama where he questioned the delay in the repair bridges and other infrastructural concerns which fall under the purview of the Grand Bahama Port Authority.
Mitchell told ZNS News, “it’s been almost a year if not more since the bridge to Taino Beach has been closed. It’s only one lane. I understand there’s a restriction now on the tonnage that can go on the bridge.”
Mitchell added, “then you’ve got the bridge over Lucaya. God only knows what’s taking so long to get that done.”
The Casaurina Bridge as well as the Sir Jack Hayward Bridge are also in various states of delayed repair.
Mitchell is of the view that the Grand Bahama Port Authority is collecting fees without delivering results. “Then the had a big fancy opening for the one at Dover Sound and then we went under it that other day, that’s not finished. So it’s just like a fairy tales is being spun, a lot of smoke and mirrors, to make people believe that there is something actually happening here but we know the true story.”
The Grand Bahama Port Authority declined to comment when contacted.
