Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis appeared the on The Rundown talk show on Monday where he sat for a hour long, wide ranging interview.
During his appearance Mr. Davis was asked about the ongoing dispute between the government and the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA). He said, “Grand Bahama through its present ownership, today, has failed the Grand Bahama people and they have not lived up to their obligations under the Hawksbill Creek Agreement.”
Earlier this year the government sent a demand letter to the GBPA for a $357 million payment for services rendered in the city of Freeport per a clause in the Hawksbill Creek Agreement. The parties have since entered arbitration. Mr. Davis said, “I am determined to make a difference in Grand Bahama because I know of its potential and I know the Grand Bahamian wants more from what is happening for them on that island.”
The Prime Minister also questioned what the GBPA is doing. “What is the Port Authority doing collecting their license fees etc., and what else?”
On investor confidence on Grand Bahama the Prime Minister said foreign investors are continuing to inquire about the island.
