Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis traveled to Grand Bahama this week where he addressed comments made by Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard.
Pintard expressed disappointed in how the Davis administration is handling the business of Grand Bahama. He said, “this kind of childish rant back and forth cannot help the people of Grand Bahama and the persons who are coming in and running up these talks they don’t live here, they don’t feel pain that people feel on the ground. And so I take offence when people are coming in and they are talking as if they fully grasp the extend of the hurt on this island.”
Prime Minister Davis responded to Pintard’s comments saying Pintard is quiet on the important issues. Mr. Davis said, “we have an issue where the Grand Bahama Power Company is seeking to raise electricity bills. We’re not hearing anything from him. We have the issue with what happening in Grand Bahama, its growth, and what we are doing and what the Port Authority is not doing in respect to Grand Bahama’s growth. I would have thought that he would be on our side and stop being the water boy for the Grand Bahama Port Authority.”
Mr. Davis added, “now he (Pintard) is saying that those who don’t live in Grand Bahama should have nothing to say about Grand Bahama. Would he have something to say about Nassau, where he does not live. I mean its a curious proposition. What’s the logic between my being able to speak up for people in Grand Bahama who are hurting,, who are looking for change and how that connects with whether I live here or not.”
Earlier this year the government sent a letter to the Grand Bahama Port Authority demanding more than $300 million in reimbursement for services rendered in Freeport. Mr. Davis said, “its not about me, the PLP or not this is about Grand Bahamians and The Bahamas. That’s the fight I’ve taken on to ensure that the Bahamians, in particular Grand Bahamians, get their just deserves.”
