Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Hon. Peter Turnquest, Minister of State for G.B Senator the Hon. Kwasi Thompson and Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness,Management and Reconstruction the Hon. Iram Lewis on Monday, September 7, 2020, toured the renovated FBO private airport in Grand Bahama, which is temporarily being used to accommodate all flights in and out of island until repairs and reconstruction of both the international and domestic sections of Grand Bahama’s international airport can be made and the facility reopened.  Airport facilities were severely damaged by Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

Prime Minister Minnis said during a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister in Freeport that talks between the owners of Grand Bahama International Airport – Hutchison Group and the Grand Bahama Port Authority – and the Government of the Bahamas are on-going and that the Government is hopeful that those talks will end with Grand Bahama eventually receiving a first class international and domestic airport.  During his address on Monday, Prime Minister Minnis announced that charter and domestic flights will be allowed to resume as more restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic are lifted.
