The Royal Bahamas Police Force is celebrating Police Month in March. The festivities began over the weekend with an event in Rawson Square.
Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Sheria King spoke with ZNS News on the sidelines of the event. She said, “this started about ten plus years ago. Our Commissioner at that time, Anthony Ferguson saw the need to implement a month where we can celebrate ourselves and this year, like I said, we’re celebrating 185 years and there is going to be a host of activities. Wednesday March 5th, we’re going to have a national walkabout day. This is where the community comes out and see their police officers. This is going to be headed by, leading the charge will be the divisional commanders. They are going to be out in the communities, engaging the communities, interacting with the communities and I say to the communities come out, see your police officers within your communities because at one of these communities the Commissioner of Police is going to be there.”
The Chief Superintendent also shared why police month is important. “Why we do police month is one, to showcase the talents that we have in the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Secondly, to engage the community and partner with the community. Third is to celebrate ourselves, comradery and fourthly is the healthy but fierce competition among our police force officers.”
