Acting Commodore Raymond King today received his instruments of appointment as officially the 8th Commander of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the 6th Bahamian.
King, the former Port Controller, takes over from Commodore Tellis Bethel, who assumed the top post in May 2017.
The scaled down handover ceremony took place this morning at the Defence Force Coral Harbour Base, strictly adhering to Covid-19 protocols.
Among the invited guests Governor General, His Excellency Cornelius Smith, Prime Minister the Most Honourable Dr. Hubert Minnis and National Security Minister, the Honourable Marvin Dames.
In his farewell speech, Bethel called his tenure one of utmost pleasures; a rewarding experience.
To his successor, Bethel reminded King that professional competence, personal character and a relationship to God is crucial to long term success.
Thursday’s RBDF handover ceremony comes on the heels of 40th anniversary of the sinking of the HMBS Flamingo on May 10th.
