A key presentation ceremony was held on Thursday for twelve families who received keys to homes in the Renaissance at Carmichael Subdivision in southwestern New Providence.

Minister of Housing and Urban Renewal, the Hon. Keith Bell spoke with ZNS News on the sidelines of the ceremony where he shared his excitement about providing homeownership opportunities to Bahamians. He said, “always putting persons in homes, it is very significant because you’re actually changing lives. This is something very, very big and homeownership would perhaps be the most singular investment, major investment that persons would actually make.

According to Minister Bell there is a 12,000 house shortage in meeting the demand for people looking for affordable homes. “We need to accelerate, amplify in a very aggressive way build homes, not just in New Providence but throughout the Family Islands and that is exactly what this Davis administration is doing.”

The government plans to construct 300 units total in the Renaissance at Carmichael Subdivision including single family homes and townhouses. Thus far 52 families have received keys to house in the community. Minister Bell expects to distribute keys to 15 more families in two weeks.
