The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has amended a severe thunderstorm warning from 3:20 Pm edt until 5:20 pm Tuesday 8th September 2020.
A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for Abaco and the Berry Islands. A severe thunderstorm warning is now in effect for the entire island of Andros and Grand Bahama along with their adjacent waters.
At 3:20 pm lightening detector, radar and satellite imagery depicted a cluster of showers with embedded thunderstorms associated with a mid to upper level disturbance moving Northwards towards and across the warning areas.
Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightening, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity. Localized flooding is also possible during these storms.
Boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen.
Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightening conductors.
