Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper appeared on the What’s Trending TV show last week where he spoke about the historic SpaceX landing in The Bahamas.

Cooper highlighted the work done in advance of the landing to ensure the environment of The Bahamas would be safe. He said, “I think what we want to assure the Bahamian people is that we didn’t enter this lightly. We were very measured and deliberate in our approach. We recognize that there are still some questions about and still some concerns and over the course of the next week or two we’re going to ensure that we respond to every legitimate concern or question that’s raised particularly by environmentalists. So I believe that we are all aligned in terms of our national interests and the government is always resolute that any investor, big or small, anyone performing any activities in The Bahamas comply with our laws, our rules, our guidelines that protect our overall well being and environment.”

The process to ensure that SpaceX received environmental clearance from the Department Of Protection and Planning began approximately two years ago.
