Sunwing Airlines brought hundreds of visitors to Grand Bahama over the weekend. The airline announced last year that there would be additional flights coming from Montreal and Toronto.

Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper shared his delight calling Sunwing an important partner. He said, “we started Sunwing about two years ago into Grand Bahama it’s doing exceedingly well. We’re doing two flights a week from Toronto and Montreal. Initially Toronto was to be December to April but the demand was so good that they determined that they would do it on a full year basis and we expect the Montreal flights to even stay beyond April as well this year.”

The Minister said the airline delivered about 1,500 passengers to Grand Bahama in January. “Last year we had about 11,000 which was almost 100% ahead of the 2023 arrivals on Sunwing. So this is a big deal for Grand Bahama.”

Cooper also spoke about the economic impact of stopover visitors on the island. He said, “we know that stopover visitors tend to spend somewhere in the region of $2,500 in Grand Bahama, $2,500 per passenger, so that’s economic impact directly into the economy and the pockets of hotels and restaurants and vendors and hair braiders. We hope that this trend is going to continue but January is very strong and this is great for our Canada market. We’re growing the percentage of our guest coming out of Canada.”

Sunwing passengers were excited to explore the island.
