Government committed to making citizenship, residency application process more efficient

Top immigration officials have been advised to work more diligently and at a faster pace to ensure that those eligible for citizenship and residency are granted their status more efficiently, said Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis. The Prime Minister said the Government is committed to ensuring that those making application in accordance with the country’s laws will be fairly treated. “We are committed to ensuring that those who are eligible for citizenship and residency, and who apply, are granted their status in a timely manner,” Prime Minister Minnis said on Wednesday 11 March at the Church of God of Prophecy’s National Conclave 2020 held at the East Street cathedral under the theme, “Rejoice! It’s Time to Praise the Lord.

Transformed New Providence landfill to start recycling program

The transformed New Providence landfill, now known as the New Providence Ecology Park (NPEP), plans to roll out a recycling program that will accept cans, glass, plastic, aluminum, cardboard and mixed paper, said NPEP chairman Mr. Felix Stubbs. The recycling plan is part of the next phase of improvements at the site that was once plagued with long-standing problems, including fires. “Chronic problems that plagued residents in the neighboring communities and Nassauvians at large for many years are now a thing of the past,” said Mr. Stubbs. Between now and September, NPEP also expects to install a modernized scale system, establish a robust composting program that will turn rubbish into compost and soil that will help rehabilitate the site, and an e-waste recycling program to properly manage computers and other electronics and keep them out of the landfill. On Wednesday, Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis got a first-hand look at the NPEP during a tour of the facility.

National Arts Festival – Drummers

Young drummers had the chance to showcase their rhythm in the Best Junkanoo Drummer sub-genre, during the E. Clement Bethel National Arts Festival New Providence Adjudications, held at the Church of God Auditorium, Joe Farrington Road, on March 10, 2020. Of note, along with a number of second-generation drummers and two female drummers were two students from Treasure Cay, Abaco, who now reside in the capital.
