In response to COVID-19, Atlantic Medical (Health & Life) Insurance, Security & General Insurance, Colonial Pensions and NIBA— part of Colonial Group International (CGI)—have closed their offices on New Providence and Grand Bahama. All employees will work remotely until March 31. This action was taken in response to a mandatory curfew imposed by The Bahamas Government. The group of companies cites the health and wellbeing of employees, their families and the community as a primary reason for the closure. Each company has initiated protocols to ensure that effective service is rendered at this time.
Many public places and businesses are closed as a result of extraordinary measures put in place by the Bahamas Government in a National Emergency response to the threat of COVID-19. A 24-hour curfew order took effect on Tuesday morning, March 24, 2020. The curfew allows for essential services. Residents may come out of their homes for those essential services and for limited exercise time. There is police presence to enforce the curfew.
Atlantis, Paradise Island located on Paradise Island, Bahamas, announces a temporary closure period from March 25th – May 15th, 2020. The temporary closure is in response to the COVID-19 crisis, and is an effort to protect the health, safety and well-being of Atlantis’ team members, guests and the surrounding local community. “We have been navigating the current situation minute-by-minute, day -by-day, adjusting as we learn more. The World, and indeed, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas is facing the spread of the highly contagious Novel Coronavirus, now referred to as COVID-19. Unfortunately, I am advised that as of today, four(4) Bahamians have tested positive with this deadly Virus. In its effort to address this challenge and to mitigate the spread of this virus, the Government has implemented several stringent measures including a twenty-four curfew. I am keenly aware that the restrictions imposed will create hardships for all of us, but they are vital to save lives.
Marine pilots around the globe have for decades provided indispensable services to ships in the maritime industry and marine pilot services have been offered in ports around The Bahamas since the 1900s. Since 2015 Independent Maritime Services (IMS), from its base of operations on Grand Bahama Island, has provided Marine Pilotage services in addition to a slew of other maritime industry services from logistics to launch and port services to guiding vessels in Harbour Island and Egg Island Eleuthera, Exuma, Conception Island, Long Island, San Salvador as well as Bimini/ Ocean Cay.
