Contract Signing for Electrification of Defence Force Base

A contract signing ceremony for the electrification of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force base as part of its ongoing Sandy Bottom Project to modernize the force was held on Wednesday, May 13 at HMBS Coral Harbour. Signing the official contracts on behalf of the Bahamas Government was Mr. Marco Rolle, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security and the President of Flameless Electrical Contracting Limited (FEC Ltd.), Mr. Quentin Knowles. Mr. Knowles expressed his gratitude on being able to see the entire project through to its full fruition.

One additional confirmed COVID-19 case

The Ministry of Health confirms today that there is one (1) additional confirmed case of COVID- 19. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to ninety-four (94). There have been eight (8) confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Grand Bahama, seventy-four (74) confirmed cases in New Providence, one (1) confirmed case in Cat Cay, and eleven (11) confirmed cases on the island of Bimini.

Rand Memorial Hospital taking precautions ahead of severe weather

With possible severe weather expected to affect the Central and Northwest Bahamas this weekend, officials of the Grand Bahama Rand Memorial Hospital are taking extra precautions ahead of the system to secure patients in Samaritan’s Purse tents. Ms. Sharon Williams, Administrator of the Rand, said the hospital is concerned about the report from the Bahamas Met Office about bad weather expected to pass through or near Grand Bahama during the weekend. “Since April 26, our last encounter with severe weather conditions, where our tents hospital at Samaritan was severely impacted by the weather conditions, we have been working very closely with the local Met office in monitoring local weather conditions,” said Ms. Williams.
