Bahamians Stuck Returned Home

Some 80 Bahamian nationals are finally back home after being stuck abroad three long months. The Bahamians were among a group of Caribbean residents trapped in foreign lands due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 100 residents and Bahamians on board the scheduled repatriation flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This is the second such exercise but third flight.

Resumption of Repatriation Flights This Week

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is liaising with the Ministries of Aviation, Immigration, Customs, Health and National Security as well as the Airport Authority ahead of two upcoming repatriation flights. If all goes as planned, the flights will leave Florida via Bahamasair on Thursday, May 21 and Saturday, May 23 at 2:00pm.

The repatriation of Bahamians and residents who remain abroad due to COVID-19 travel restrictions will resume this week with two scheduled flights from Florida, said Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis. The Prime Minister was speaking in a live televised COVID-19 National Address on Sunday 17 May. This week’s flights, scheduled for Thursday 21 May and Saturday 23 May from Ft. Lauderdale to New Providence, will mark the second round of repatriation exercises by the Government. A flight to Grand Bahama will be accommodated if necessary. On Friday 8 May, the Government facilitated the return of 183 Bahamians and residents to New Providence and Grand Bahama.
