The Government’s Small Home Repair Programme, through which Bahamian homeowners in Hurricane Dorian-impacted areas could receive thousands of dollars in vouchers, will launch on February 10. Katherine Forbes-Smith, Managing Director of the Bahamas Disaster Reconstruction Authority, made the announcement Thursday, January 30 at a town hall meeting for the East Grand Bahama District at the Bahamas Union of Teachers Hall in Freeport. There will be 4 categories for which vouchers will be granted.
Approximately 2,900 of almost 5,000 students enrolled at the University of The Bahamas (UB) are benefitting from the Government’s Tertiary Education Grant Programme initiated last August to increase tuition-free access to tertiary education for qualified Bahamians, said Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis.
University of The Bahamas (UB) and its public-private sector partners broke ground on Thursday, January 30th 2020 for a multi million dollar University Residence and Multipurpose Complex to be constructed at the Oakes Field Campus. At a projected cost of approximately $95 million, the complex will be strategically important to increasing the vibrancy of campus life and injecting new vitality into the surrounding communities.
The Over-the-Hill Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister held a 'Sexually-Based Crime' workshop, aimed at empowering students to speak out again such acts against them. The one-day forum accommodated about 100 students from schools in the Over-the-Hill area at the Paul Farquharson Centre, Police Headquarters, January 30, 2020. The students wore blue coloured T-shirts with the message: #SOS: StampingOutSexualViolence.
An advance team of the Organization of American States (OAS) led by Ambassador Francisco Lainez visited New Providence for the second preliminary meeting to coordinate preparations for the 50th OAS General Assembly, which is scheduled to be held on New Providence, June 9-12, 2020.
