The Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) executed a proactive transfer of COVID positive patients on Friday November 6th, in preparation for tropical storm Eta. Admitted COVID patients from the Samaritan’s Purse field hospital were transported to a repurposed COVID ward located in the main Hospital. Patients were also transferred from the Legacy modular COVID Unit.
These measures were taken based on forecasts from the Bahamas Met Office.
At the time of the transfer there were two (2) patients in the Samaritan’s Purse field hospital; these patients were transported via wheelchair to the Medical Surgical Unit II, a designated COVID Care Unit. The hospital also executed a transfer of patients outside of PMH as part of the contingency measures.
Patients in the Legacy Unit were transferred to Doctors Hospital Health System (DHHS) West, based on the level of care required.
Clinical and support staff were reallocated internally to augment clinical units. During the remaining weeks of the 2020 Hurricane Season, PMH will follow similar safety protocols in tandem with Samaritan’s Purse to determine the security and continued use of the facility when impending adverse weather systems threaten.
