Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe told reporters on Monday that the US indictment against Donald Ferguson will not affect the cases brought against him in this jurisdiction.

Munroe said, “one would have to look at everything in the round.  Sometimes, for instance, if he was wanted for murder in the US and just drug trafficking here we might determine the murder is the more serious offence and permit him to go there first.  But they would first have to make a request for his extradition.  Those proceedings can proceed even while even while the proceedings here proceed.”

The Minister also addressed claims that Ferguson’s local cases are causing a delay in the US case.  He said the cases are not connected.

Ferguson recently appeared in the Magistrates Court charged with the murder of Geovanie Rolle and various drug related charges.
