Governor General the Most Hon. Dame Cynthia Pratt and Prime Minister the Hon. Philip Davis joined with cabinet ministers, other senior government officials and stakeholders in the U.S. Embassy’s Freedom250 Cultural Night celebrations, held at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas on September 9, 2026.
U.S. Ambassador, His Excellency Herschel Walker and his wife, Mrs. Julie Walker hosted the event, which was termed a “celebration of Bahamian culture and American friendship”.
Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage the Hon. Leslia Miller-Brice, and Executive Chairman of the Antiquities, Monuments and Museums Corporation Dr. Michael Pateman also brought remarks and took part in the Official Ceremony.
The evening included the official launch of the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) to mark the $245,000 grant to restore Fort Montagu, a gift from the U.S. Government to the people of The Bahamas, the Embassy noted.
Along with art on display and the Bahamian performers at the event, the Gerald Cash Primary School Rake-N-Scrape Band energised the attendees with a lively set on the front steps of the National Art Gallery main building.
