On 26th May 2022, three (3) adult females were charged and convicted in the Magistrate’s Court, Marsh Harbour, Abaco for various immigration offences. Colombian female migrant pled guilty to Overstaying and was fined one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) or in default of payment, serve a prison term of three (3) months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS).
Additionally, a second Colombian female pled guilty to Overstaying and Possession of a Forged Document. She wassubsequently fined seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00) and one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) respectively, or in default of payment serve a prison term of three (3) months that would run concurrently at BDOCS.
The third migrant of St. Andrew, Jamaica pled guilty to Illegal Landing and was fined three hundred dollars ($300.00) or in default of payment, serve a prison term of three (3) months at BDOCS. Upon payment of fines or completion of prison terms, the court ordered the defendants to be turned over to the Department of Immigration for deportation.
