Brian Hooker has been taken into custody in connection with the disappearance at sea of his wife, Lynette Hooker.
Hooker reported his wife missing on Saturday telling police she fell overboard from an eight foot dinghy they were using to get from Hope Town to Elbow Cay in Abaco. Hooker’s attorney, Terell Butler spoke with ZNS News on Thursday. She said, “he was there for over three hours. He left and then after he left he was asked to return and he was told that he needed to give an additional statement. He was subsequently arrested.”
According to Butler her client is cooperating with the investigation and was scheduled for another interview in Abaco on Thursday. “However, late last night after purchasing my ticket for Abaco I was told that he would be interviewed in Grand Bahama. So I’m here in Grand Bahama waiting for him to be transported to Grand Bahama so that the interview can be conducted,” she said.
At the time of Butler’s comments Brian Hooker had not been charged with a crime. Butler said, “the normal custom is once a person is in custody there’s a formal interview that is done before any decision is made to either charge or release the person. So he has not done that formal interview. When he went in yesterday he gave a statement voluntarily in his capacity.”
The family of Lynette Hooker have been calling for a deeper investigation into her disappearance. Her daugher, Kayli Aylseworth told ZNS News earlier this week that she believes something may have happened to her mother before she went into the water. She also said she would like to know what happened to get closure.
