Two Bahamian men were honoured by Onyx Magazine in the United States. Bahamian Consul General to Miami, Curt Hollingsworth and Bahamasair Marketing Consultant, Woodrow Wilson were among twenty two others honoured at the Men OF Honour Awards this past Saturday in Orlando, Florida.

Mr. Hollingsworth shared that, “its a privilege and a humbling experience because its something I never really anticipated, I never expected. I’m one of those persons who went out and worked with kids all of my life and never looked back for anything. Because I have a simple motto, the good that you do for others you do unto yourself without looking for any recognition.”

Mr. Woodrow Wilson reacted to his award by stating, “it says that the community in Florida, in particular the African American community, appreciates Bahamasair and the fact that we now have service nonstop from the Bahamas to Orlando.”

Onyx Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Rich Black, who is the child of Bahamian parents, says that the award is to highlight black men making an impact. He said, “well we felt that there was a need to celebrate African American males. Those who were doing the heavy lifting and basically they are unsung heroes. And we decided that we would put an initiative together because we’re a black publication. There’s alot of guys out here who need to be recognized, but they will never be written about and we will never hear the positives so we put this together in 2019 and it grew and in 2020 it grew again and this year, with the assistance of the mayor, this has now grown to almost a 500-600 seat event.”

Also on hand at the event was the Minister of Social Services, the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe, Chairman of ZNS, Picewell Forbes and former Member of Parliament Rubyann Darling.
