Fifty five officers of the Bahamas Department of Corrections were presented with awards for humanitarianism and long service. The awards were presented by Governor General, His Excellency the Most. Hon. Cornelius Smith. Also at the event was the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe, who delivered remarks.

He said, “Now let’s be clear you didn’t get it just cause you did eighteen or the twenty five or the thirty cause if you’d done some nonsense you wouldn’t have gotten it, regardless of how much years you put in. And so I want to stress, publicly, that this is not an award simply for marking time. This is an award for giving exemplary and meritorious service.”

The minister also expressed gratitude to the group for their exceptional service. Munroe said that in his estimation prison officers have the hardest task of all law enforcement agencies.
