Minister of National Security the Hon. Wayne Munroe joined Acting Commissioner at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS) Doan Cleare and other senior BDOCS officials, officers, and stakeholders, at the launch of its pilot Electronic Inmate Visitation Programme, on January 19, 2022.  According to the Ministry, the programme seeks to allow inmates at BDOCS the privilege of visitation with family members via electronic means, after a two-year hiatus of face-to-face visitation due to COVID 19.

Not only would the system be pivotal in returning some normalcy to the inmates, the Ministry noted, but it would also help in the fight against the community spread by reducing the likelihood of transmission of the virus between inmates and the general public.  Additionally, another added benefit is that relatives of inmates who live on the Family Islands will no longer need to travel to New Providence for visits, at their own cost.
